Random Acts of Kindness Week Starts Now! #RAKweek

recent Huffington Post article featuring the work of Richard J. Davidson, a professor of psychology and psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, described an awesome study on happiness:

…individuals were brought into a laboratory and given $100 each. One group was encouraged to spend the money on themselves. Another was told to spend the money on others. At the end of the day, when researchers assessed changes in happiness levels, they found the individuals in the giving group scored significantly happier.

You’ve probably experienced this at some point (or many points) in your life. The joy of giving that perfect gift, helping a friend in a bind, or simply giving somebody a big hug. Giving makes us happy.

We also know that people who volunteer to help others live longer and are happier.

That’s why it’s so exciting that Random Acts of Kindness Week starts today. This is a great opportunity to turn on a little extra kindness and make somebody smile. It’s a win-win situation!

P.S. I recently received a copy of my brother’s latest CD. It is fantastic! Search iTunes for “david ahlen selah” and enjoy the minimalist, peaceful music. (And if you want to get a start on your random act of kindness, buy one of his songs.) :)

How cool that it’s RAK week? I do it as often as I can think about it…just to let people know I *see* them. It usually doesn’t have to be a big gesture, but just something heartfelt. Feels way better than being alone in my little world. :)
