For those of you who have been reading this blog for a while, you may recall that I did a short cleanse based on the guidelines in the book If the Buddha Came to Dinner. Back then, I committed that when the time was right, I would do the full 21 day cleanse.
The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook
Well, between now and then, I came across a gluten-free cookbook called The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook. At the back of this cookbook are instructions for a 28-day “Elimination and Detoxification Diet.”
I was intrigued by this, because not only is it a cleanse, but it is also a systematic approach to determining food sensitivities. I know I’m sensitive to certain foods and I have a pretty good guess as to what they are, but I’d like to know for sure.
The Elimination Diet
The diet starts off with two days of green smoothies (yes, that’s my breakfast in the picture) followed by three phases where certain foods are added back into the diet every three days. After the 28 days, the “challenge phase” commences where challenge foods such as yeast, chocolate, and wheat may be added in one at a time.
My goal with the diet is three-fold:
- I want to figure out what foods make me feel bad
- I hope to kick my sugar addiction
- I plan to use this structured time to get in the habit of writing every day
Per goal number 3, I will post daily during this time. Sometimes it will be about the diet. Other times, it may be completely random creative writing. Ultimately, it will be what I feel like writing about.
P.S. While writing this, I have managed to drink half the smoothie, so I guess it’s a go!
